OVN-Kubernetes (Open Virtual Networking - Kubernetes) provides a robust networking solution for Kubernetes clusters with OVN (Open Virtual Networking) and Open vSwitch (Open Virtual Switch) at its core. It was accepted as a CNCF sandbox project in Oct 2024.
KubeVirt extends the Kubernetes API to provide for virtualization workloads to run natively alongside container workloads. KubeVirt is an incubating project that is applying for graduation.
We thought it might be fun to do a combined demo that shows off both projects. First by setting up the underlying network with OVN-Kubernetes, and then showing a few KubeVirt features like live migration.
This OVN-K / KubeVirt integration also provides interesting features since secondary network support (with and without IPAM), access to the physical network, micro-segregation on secondary networks, etc.
